Parents, Families, & Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG)
Founded in 1972 with the simple act of a mother publicly supporting her gay son, PFLAG is the original family and ally organization. Made up of parents, families, friends, and allies uniting with people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT), PFLAG is committed to advancing equality and acceptance through its mission of support, education, and advocacy.
PFLAG has more than 350 chapters and 200,000 supporters crossing multiple generations of American families in major urban centers, small cities, and rural areas in all 50 states. To learn more, please visit www.pflag.org
In 2007, PFLAG National expanded its work with Straight for Equality, a national outreach and education project created to empower new allies who, unlike a more traditional PFLAG member, don’t necessarily have a family connection to the LGBT community. With initiatives like Straight for Equality in the Workplace, Straight for Equality in Healthcare, and Straight for Equality in Faith Communities, PFLAG National and its Straight for Equality project is engaging new allies, every day.
